Problems with rotting building exterior occurs because of usage of new building techniques where the exterior walls are sealed so well that no air is allowed into the walls, thus there is no ventilation and drying of the materials used for building Is almost impossible. Water that was sucked into the walls during the period of construction stays trapped inside the structure and eventually starts the rotting of the wood frame construction. In order to repair the problem the walls have to be opened up, the rotten wood replaced altogether with insulation and finally, the building needs to be reclad. This seems to be a unique British Columbia problem, and it looks like it’s unknown in the rest of Canada.
